Newcomers Club

The Bell County Newcomers Club, for women new to the Central Texas area, has announced upcoming group activities for March 5-10.

Canasta will be played 12:30-3:30 p.m. Monday; mah jongg will be played 12:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday; bridge will be played 1-4 p.m. Wednesday; the group will meet for a “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” day featuring lunch and a movie at noon Thursday; a “TGIF” event will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday; and a “Couples Night Out” will be held 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Beta Sigma Phi

The Delta Beta Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi recently met at the Longhorn Restaurant for a luncheon honoring Carolyn Webster, who was named the Valentine Queen of the chapter. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers and the BSP Valentine Queen pin from the group.

Delta Kappa Gamma Society

The Lambda chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society will meet 5 p.m. Thursday in the fellowship hall of Grace Presbyterian Church.

A social time will begin at 4:40 p.m. Millie Henn from the Mended Hearts group will present a program promoting healthy hearts. Members are reminded to bring school supply donations.

Temple Review Club

The Temple Review Club will hold its third review of the season at 2 p.m. at the Azalee Marshall Cultural Activities Center in Temple.

The program will feature Kathleen Cunningham reviewing “Mary Martin, Broadway Legend” by Ronald L. Davis. The review covers Mary Martin’s Hollywood career, Broadway, and the difficulties between her husband, Richard Halliday, and her son, Larry Hagman, who became famous as J.R. Ewing on the TV show “Dallas.”

Rotary Club of Temple South

The Sam Houston chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will meet 10 a.m. Saturday at the American Legion Hall in Belton. Refreshments will be served at 9:45 a.m.

Bell Extension Education Association

The Bell Extension Education Association will meet 10 a.m. Monday at the county extension meeting room at 1605 N. Main St. in Belton. Refreshments, provided by the Leedale Club, will be served at 9:45 a.m.

The program will be given by Jackie McLaughlin, Bell County extension agent. Two delegates and three alternates will be selected from Bell County for the District Spring Conference to be held April 10 in Georgetown. Coins for Friendship are due to the country treasurer. There also will be a short meeting with the style show committee following the regular meeting.

Music Club of Temple

Olivia Gorrell won the $1000 Nora Lee Wendland scholarship; Celia Bowen won the $500 Ann Chamlee scholarship; Taylor Luther won the $500 Durward Howard scholarship; and Nathan LeBlanc won the $500 Roy Finney scholarship.
